~ Duinlan's Urn

Lady Duinlan was a Rat in Ghost of a Tale. She was a warrior from Dhall that fought in the War of the Green Flame, and is one of the twelve Wardens of the Green Flame.

History[]

Duinlan was born within Castle Dhall, the daughter of the Steward. She fought frequently with her rival, Hythe, until the Steward passed away and Duinlan's family left the castle.

Duinlan met Hythe again during the War of the Green Flame, where they became lovers after she was assigned to be his personal guard. They planned to marry in Keem after the war, but Hythe was tragically slain and reanimated by the power of the Green Flame, forcing Duinlan to kill him. Years after the Rats emerged victorious at the Battle of Periclave, Duinlan eventually passed away and was entombed in the Great Hall beneath Dwindling Heights Keep (the real name of the keep being "Duinlan Heights", named after both Duinlan and Hythe), buried in her signature golden armour, which had lead to her nickname, "the Gilded Warrior".

As the centuries passed, the history began to be forgotten and misremembered, and the world came to believe that the mighty hero Duinlan who had lead the final charge against the Green Flame had been a male.

When Tilo explores the catacombs of the keep at the behest of Silas, in search of a small chest of treasure, he encounters the spirit of Duinlan. After singing "The Gilded Warrior", she is able to take form and converse with him. Upon learning that the ghostly doe before him was indeed Duinlan, Tilo was surprised, but accepted this as truth, going as far as to adjust the lyrics to 'The Gilded Warrior' in his songbook to use female pronouns instead of male when referring to Duinlan.
