Hamel was a village in the Mice kingdom. It lay in a valley, in the middle of a field of flowers. Like many Mouse villages, its denizens worked in wheat fields, although many of the young Mice left the village to work in the copper mine to the west.
Tilo brought his master, Gerardus, to Hamel when he fell sick with a fever, and repayed their kindness by working in the fields for the harvest season. It was also here that Tilo met Merra and lived for several years after having their son, Brin.
